Wonder Lure

Are Making Fish History!

So Unbelievable-But TRUE

This lure does not appear artificial in the water. The amazing part of the No-Name Lure is that the manufacturer, Fujita, prefers to prove its fish-catching-ability before the anglers purchase it. Fishing before groups and individuals all over the West, Fujita has taken fish with the No-Name lure under all circumstances and in all waters 100% in all demonstrations.

Fujita did spend most of his time away from demonstrating the lure before groups on "fished out" lakes were he has shown amazing results in every case. It has been proved extremely successful on Bass, but is also excellent for the taking of other game fish such as Trout, Crappie and Bluegill in waters that are very clear or when fish are very wily.

REASON FOR NO NAME: There is no name because this lure was not made for you, me, or anybody. Fujita merely made it according to what the fish wanted by adding and subtracting materials on lure on average of once a day for 2 1/2 years fishing in clear water.  It was not made to look like anything in the world, such as minnows, insects or bugs.

INVENTOR’S EXPERIENCE: In a river, one half mile from a town of nearly 5,000 people, which has been called a fished-out river, my record catch for one day was 80 fish; but record per cast with fly rod was 22 fish  in 22 casts without a single miss. What I have related here does not prove anything conclusively, but I can say that in the shortest length of time and in the smallest fishing area this lure can catch more fish than any artificial lure I have tried. If there were lures that were as good or better, inventing  this lure would not have been necessary. The principle of this lure was discovered accidentally in Arizona, and it took 2 1/2 years of experimenting to perfect it.

The Rebirth of a Treasured Lure

Invented by John Fujita in the 50’s

I received a call in the spring of 2000 from Ralph Freeze, the owner of Chicagoland Canoe Base, he was interested in  the” No-Name,” As we swapped fishing stories and enjoyed our phone conversations he continued to impress upon me the need to make  the No-Name. I told Ralph that the only way I would consider making this lure was to get in touch with it’s owner and see if it was for sale or if we could help bring it back to life. Ralph had talked with Tara Fujita the niece and current owner of the No-Name lure in the past and knew that she had tried but had no success. We ended our phone conversation with an agreement that we would both keep searching for Tara and reach out to each other with any new information.

Three and a half years later, I had my first phone conversation with Tara. We have laughed about that first phone conversation several times since. Here out of the clear blue sky, she gets a call from some guy in southern Indiana wanting to buy or help her bring back the No-Name lure. She let me know right up front, the lure is not for sale! Here is what I told Tara. I have researched and checked several blogs, there is a long list of older gentlemen that would like to have these lures, something that Tara already knew. It’s uniqueness I did not understand at the time, but I thought it was a lure that had great potential in our market area of pan fish lures. What I was truly interested in, was how could I help her bring the lure back to life? I explained to Tara that we had purchased another line of lures from another company in the fall of 2009 and brought them back to life in their original color combinations and we could possibly help her bring the No-Name lure back to life as well. If we couldn’t accomplish it, we would part ways. This took a few months to convince Tara to at least let us try, but not without a few signatures on some legal documents .

I have tied a lot of jigs over the last ten years or so and I consider myself to be an average tier, but the No-Name lure was the hardest lure I have ever had to tie. With the help of Jack Miller, www.jacksknot.com, and one and one half years later, we have finally accomplished bringing the No-Name lure back to life.

There are three individuals that I want to thank for their involvement to bring the No-Name lure back to life. First is Ralph Freeze for making that phone call in 2000, unfortunately he did not physically see the rebirth, but I am sure he was watching and is all smiles. Second is Jack Miller for assisting me with insight on how this lure was originally tied and teaching me new fly tying techniques and the start of a new friendship.

The biggest Thank You to Tara, for taking a chance and allowing Nothead Tackle  to help bring back the No-Name lure and also for having the patience for this to come together successfully.

FAMILY  OWNED

Alyssa Maitoza is the great niece of the inventor of the NoName lure, John Fujita.  Alyssa grew up in the Santa Cruz county where she spent many days of her childhood fishing with her uncles and her younger brother, Nick.  After hours sitting by the lake with her uncles, she would head back to their old house off of White St. in Watsonville where the lure was originally crafted and watch closely as her uncles would clean and prep the fish to share with family and friends.  As a young child with a strong sense of curiosity and great visual memory, the handmade manufacturing of the lures in that old house and the specific techniques of cleaning and prepping the fish after a successful day out on the water are some of her fondest memories.  Alyssa now resides in San Francisco, CA where she has established a career in Sales and Business Development for the San Francisco Giants however, she remains a proactive ambassador of this great family tradition.
